Rugby League

NO journalist could have written the script any better for the exposure the NRL has received in Victoria and the nation after the demise of the Melbourne Storm in 2010 due to a controversial salary cap breach.

The loss of two premierships and future premiership points means the intrigue will continue with the team on and off the field during the season. These words from NRL chief executive David Gallop at a press conference will ring in the ears of every NRL follower throughout the season: “The elaborate lengths they went to hide the payments was quite extraordinary. These payments allowed them to recruit and retain the best players in the NRL" and "In the 2010 season all competition points will be taken away, and the team will not accrue any more points during the season.”

But on the field, perhaps the more intriguing stories are to come. Who will step up to take the mantle away from the league's recent powerhouse - the Storm - and perhaps take a stranglehold on the competition? The best is yet to come in the NRL.
