Netball has grown considerably in the past two years.

The No.1 women's sport in Australia has long been playing second fiddle to men's basketball. With the sport getting great exposure, it has edged in front and grown in popularity in many towns around Australia.

“A couple of years ago we moved away from the ABC who supported us for a number of years on Fox Sports and they did a fantastic job in bringing the sport to life and now with Channel Ten and OneHD, they’ve just taken it to another level again,” said Sharelle McMahon, player Australian Netball Diamonds told TST.

“In the other mediums, too, we’re getting a lot more coverage and a lot more support.” “I think it’s showing that people are interested and people do want to know about it and people are getting a bit more engaged with the sport so it’s all really exciting,” she said.

The Diamonds will compete at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi later in 2010 and will be out to defend their title at the World Netball Championships in Singapore in 2011. Total Sport Travel has some great packages on offer to get you there.
